I had a chat recently about how I don't eat out much these days, and it's true. Lately, if there's something I'm craving, I just make it myself: it's better for my budget, it's generally better for my health, and I can tweak and tailor the ingredients. Win, win, win. However, there are two exceptions: tacos (duh, who didn't see this coming) and brunch.

Ahhhh, brunch. Glorious brunch. There is no better meal in all the land.

This past Saturday was gorgeous, the kind of day that audibly calls for a good brunch. I dragged the mister all the way across town to Inman Park, to a spot that's been bookmarked on my Yelp list for a few months: BeetleCat.

During normal business hours, BeetleCat is a seafood restaurant. I'm not a seafood fan, so normally, I'd dismiss this place without a second thought. However, two words made me do a double take - DONUT BRUNCH.

The outdoor seating on the patio was cute and quaint, but the interior was brimming with 70s vibes thanks to vintage furniture, crystal-laced chandeliers and wavy decor. There was no line/wait, so we sat down and were served right away.

The brunch menu, as implied, is centered around donuts. I'm a sucker for anything sweet and salty at the same time, so this was all the way up my alley.

I ordered the Glazed Chicken, a crispy chicken and fried egg sandwich between two glazed donuts.

Listen...

God is good, God is great, and I surely thanked Him for that food that day. It was amazing, the perfect mix of sweet and savory. The egg yolk was a tad runny, just how I like it. Basically, that sandwich was made for my taste buds. Made for them, I tell you!

J ordered the Chili Cheese Hashbrowns with a side of bacon and scrambled eggs with cheese. He was also in heaven.

He ate every last bite on all three plates, proving this place was worth the drive across town.

Afterwards we strolled around the neighborhood for a bit, you know... to "walk it off." Because it's not a good brunch if you don't feel the need to walk it off.
