Clearly I Don't Know What 'Blog Everyday' Means

24 July 2013

The thing about documenting life: you must have one worth documenting.
Netflix and wine is not worth documenting, and when I do get out and do something, I conveniently fail to photography the escapade. So here I am, with hardly anything to share except my words, and I'm no fool; I understand this is a visual world, so those words will likely go unnoticed if there's no accompanying illustration - which is why there's a picture of this sweater from a street vendor in San Francisco, that has absolutely nothing to do with this post.

Day 12, Friday: What do you miss? (a person, a thing, a place, a time of your life...)
The first thing that came to mind here was my grandparents' house in Michigan. It was pretty much central station for every family gathering on my Father's side, and the memories at that place stick in my head like an annoyingly catchy pop song. Only, I actually like it.

Day 13, Saturday: Issue a public apology. This can be as funny or as serious or as creative as you want it to be.
I've done this one before, but to anybody who's ever heard my real laugh, I am so sorry.

Day 14, Sunday: Ten things that make you really happy
Spending time with family and close friends, trying new foods, enjoying old foods, musicals, good hair days, the beach, yoga, stepping off an airplane at my destination, when my place is super clean, giving good gifts.

Day 15, Monday: A Day in the life (include photos from throughout your typical day - this could be "a photo an hour" if you'd like)
I can't really remember what happened last Monday, so...

Day 16, Tuesday: Something difficult about your "lot in life" and how you're working to overcome it
This is a tough one. I look at my life sometimes and just thank God for the way it's going so far. There are all these people with all these heartbreaking stories, and even though I've dealt with my fair share of BS, I've never had to worry about where my next meal is coming from or where I'll lay my head at night, and there has always been provision for my basic needs. Until I feel my story of overcoming will positively impact someone, I'll choose to not dwell on the how and just be grateful that it did.

Day 17, Wednesday: A favorite photo of yourself and why
Fact - I don't like taking pictures. What's the opposite of photogenic? Me.

Day 18, Thursday: Tell a story from your childhood. Dig deep and try to be descriptive about what you remember and how you felt.
I'll be re-visiting this one. My favorite scar story deserves its own post.

Day 19, Friday: Five of your favorite blogs and what you love about them
  • Maskcara - beauty blogger who's ridiculously down to earth and relatable. I just wish she had more tips for women of color.
  • Story Of My Life - her photography is insane. In a good way. There've been times where I just stared at her posts without reading the captions.
  • A Cup of Jo - she mainly curates content, but it's always good content.
  • The Road is Home - because they basically life my wanderlusty dream life.
Day 20, Saturday: Get real. Share something you're struggling with right now.
I reaaaaaaaaaaally want to pack up and move, and I'm not just talking to another side of town. The idea is to be on the other side of the country within the next year or two, and I have no idea how I'm gonna get there, but by golly George, I'm thinking of a master plan.

Day 21, Sunday: A list of links to your favorite posts in your archives
Emotional Whore
Turns Out, Mother Always Knows Best

Day 22, Monday: Rant about something. Get up on your soapbox and tell us how you really feel. (a pet peeve, a current event, a controversial topic, something your husband or roommate or neighbor or boss does that really ticks you off)
This would've been the perfect opportunity to share my thoughts on the Trayvon Martin case, since it's had a bit of time to simmer, but I'm still not completely sure I can articulate all my thoughts on the situation, so maybe it's best I just leave it alone. After all, everyone has already given their two cents -would mine even make a difference?

Day 23, Tuesday: Things you've learned that school won't teach you
1// Money management - this should really be a required class in high school
2// How to be observant - as in, watch your surroundings when you're alone (especially when it's dark) so you don't get snatched up. Thanks, Law & Order: SVU.
3// How to use chop sticks - this was difficult for me.

Day 24, Wednesday: Your top 3 worst traits
1// My stubbornness
2// I can be slow to return calls/texts
3// Procrastination (I thought I'd outgrow this. Apparently not)

Whew!
