Ruby Falls is a 145-foot high underground waterfall located within Lookout Mountain, near Chattanooga, Tennessee. I had been to Ruby Falls once with my mom a few years back, and it was a cool experience, but not something I was itching to do again.
This time around was different from what I remember. The tour was longer, there were many more callouts to the various formations inside the caves and more lights and signs, which took away from the organic beauty of it all. It's just like humans to mess with nature for the sake of commercialism. The formations, however, are still quite a sight to see.
There were also various stops along the tour, where we paused to hear an excerpt from the diary of the guy who discovered the waterfall. We could've done without that part – it added absolutely nothing to the experience. All it did was slow us down.
And finally, we reached the waterfall.
haha guided tours are either a hit or miss for me. I typically prefer exploring on my own, but if there's a lot to navigate and I'm too lazy to figure it out, I might just go with a tour. Anywho, the waterfall looks so cool in the purple light! It looks surreal, like something in an amusement park, but better because it's real. -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's
